Delete your Zimzam account and data
You can delete your Zimzam account and the data associated with it at any time. To request deletion today, email us from the address associated with your account. An in-app "delete account" option is on the way. Either way, your account and personal data are permanently removed as described below.

How to delete your account
A. Ask us by email
Email us from the email address associated with your Zimzam account and ask us to delete your account. Asking from your account's own email address helps us confirm the request is really from you before we remove anything.

B. Delete in the app
You can delete your account directly in the app: open Profile → Delete Account. You can also request deletion by email using the method on the left.
What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove:
- your account and sign-in association (Google account identifier);
- your profile, including email, Google display name and profile photo / avatar reference;
- your chosen display name;
- your uploaded ringtones, deleted from Google Cloud Storage (GCS);
- your friend relationships and permissions (who could set your ringtone, and whose you could set);
- your contact-match data derived from your device contacts;
- your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) registration token(s).
Ringtones you previously assigned to a friend may already be present on their device; deleting your account stops future delivery and removes them from our systems. A ringtone that a friend has already received is stored on their device and stays there until they remove it — we cannot delete files on someone else's phone.
What may be retained, and why
After deletion, we may keep a limited amount of information for a short period where we have a legitimate or legal reason to — for example:
- Minimal security and abuse-prevention logs (such as records needed to prevent fraud or abuse), kept for up to 90 days.
- Records we are legally required to keep — in particular anonymised transaction and purchase records (credit purchases and in-app payments), kept (with no link to your profile) for as long as needed for tax, accounting and audit purposes.
- Backups, if any — any operational backup copies are purged on our normal rotation cycle, within the same 30-day deletion window.
Retained data is not used to reconstruct your profile and is deleted or anonymised once no longer needed.
How long deletion takes
When you request deletion, your account is deactivated right away (a "soft delete"), and your account and personal data are then permanently deleted within 30 days of your request. Any copies in operational backups are removed within that same 30-day window.
